Thermal Spray Solutions for the Food and Beverage Industry
TSS provides advanced thermal spray coatings for food processing equipment, delivering superior wear and corrosion resistance. Similar coatings are also applied to pharmaceutical processing equipment and machinery used for personal hygiene products, ensuring friction without sticking and optimising production line efficiency.
These coatings offer an excellent alternative to hard chrome plating, providing enhanced durability while avoiding the environmental concerns associated with chromium-based processes.
Pump Shafts and Sleeves
Food processing pump shafts and sleeves can be coated to improve wear resistance. Typically, the coated surfaces are seal or bearing surfaces, which can then be ground to precise, smooth finishes for optimal performance.
Impellers.
Impellers are generally coated with carbide-containing materials to protect against abrasive and erosive wear, ensuring reliable operation even under heavy-duty conditions.
Homogenizer Plunger
Homogenizer plungers, used in the processing of products such as milk and juices, are coated with carbide and oxide ceramic coatings to enhance wear and corrosion resistance. These coatings exhibit extremely high hardness (1,200–1,500 Vickers / 71–76 HRC) and exceptional density (less than 1% porosity typical), providing long-lasting performance.
Food Processing Pump Seals
Mechanical pump seals, typically made from stainless steel 316L, are coated with metal oxide ceramics such as chromium oxide, or carbide-containing materials, to achieve superior wear resistance. These coatings are food-contact safe and far harder (70–75 HRC) than most materials they encounter, ensuring extended component life.
Other Typical Applications in the Food & Beverage Industry:
Moulds
Conveyor systems
Rollers
Hoppers and chutes
Bakeware
Knives and blades
By applying state-of-the-art thermal spray coatings, TSS ensures enhanced durability, reduced maintenance, and consistent operational efficiency across the food and beverage processing sector.
