TSS | Thermal Spray Services for Hydraulics

Mechanical components in the hydraulic industry are subject to severe abrasive wear and corrosion due to extreme environmental pressures and continuous operation. Thermal spray coatings are a proven alternative to hard chrome, specifically engineered for hydraulic piston rods.

TSS has developed a range of advanced hard chrome alternative coating systems, utilising robotic HVOF and plasma thermal spray technologies, to protect hydraulic cylinders operating in harsh industrial environments.

Cylinder Refurbishment and Extended Service Life

One of the key advantages of TSS thermal spray coatings is the ability to refurbish damaged cylinders. Thanks to the ability to apply thicker coatings, hydraulic cylinders with local pitting, impact damage, or undersized components can be restored without the need for full replacement, significantly reducing downtime and costs.

Wear and Corrosion Solutions for Hydraulic Systems

Traditional chrome-plated coatings can fail under challenging operating conditions, such as:

  • Harbour and ship systems (on-deck, splash zone, submerged)

  • Offshore platforms and dredging equipment

  • Marine mining systems

  • Hydraulic equipment exposed to aggressive chemicals in chemical, petrochemical, and steel plants

TSS coatings are typically nickel- or cobalt-based ceramic-metal composites, although pure ceramic coatings are sometimes used. To ensure optimal hydraulic performance, all coatings are finished using advanced diamond-abrasive technologies, delivering a surface finish fully compatible with hydraulic seals.
